I must admit that I didn’t get to watch a lot of Korean dramas in 2021. I stuck mainly to rewatching some of my favorites because the current trend in romance tropes didn’t quite appeal to me as much this year (although I have a couple of dramas I am waiting to binge). Here’s my list of my personal favorites though and I hope you give them a watch.

All in all, the pacing was just right for 12 episodes but I must admit that I was a bit worried when there were still plenty of loose ends by the last one. Thankfully, the ending was worth the stress. I wasn’t a big fan of the soundtrack though.

Happiness was definitely one of the better dramas of 2021. It begs the question of who the real monsters are when humanity is tested by crisis. Clearly, there were plenty of monsters in this series but not just the neck biting variety.

All in all, “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon” was able to deliver a serious message about taking responsibility for one’s strengths (literally and figuratively) in a light and fun atmosphere by using sometimes over the top comedy that pokes fun at the common tropes in rom-com. It maintained audiences’ interest with a multi-faceted story that engaged and entertained from the first minute up to the last. Never a boring moment with this series, whether it was in solving crime or falling in love. But its main strength was truly the insane chemistry between the lead characters. I fervently hope that Park Hyung Sik and Park Bo Young get to work in another rom-com soon, and I mean soon. For now, I will content myself while watching this series over and over and over and over again.
