After seeing the first installment, I am still baffled by the good reviews that the series received. Were we even watching the same show?

All in all, I can’t wait to see how Chigara and Maayu’s relationship progresses even more, and how Chiga mends his relationship with his former bestie Tezuka (whom I think still has a major role to play in this story). Oh, I should not fail to mention that the art is top notch. Chigara is a dreamboat, most definitely (with or without glasses) and the art actually reminds me a lot of Ao Haru Ride. I don’t think I will watch the live action film that was just released this month because I want to preserve this couple’s perfection in my brain. So far, two thumbs up! The downside, as with any ongoing manga — I have to wait for months on end before the next installment of And Yet You are So Sweet.

All in all, The CW really pulled all the stops to make Riverdale completely different from what comic book fans expected and it was a gamble that mostly paid off. It generated interest in the new series but also piqued the interest of its new fans to see what the difference with the original material was — and vice versa. Its off to a good start, and by breaking the chains of its connection with its source material, it also liberated itself to tell its story in its own way and the journey promises to be exciting as it is dark. I think though, that its not gonna be for everybody’s taste.
